WFBA provided specialist structural engineering services to assist in the redevelopment of a Grade II listed building which was the former headquarters of Lloyds Bank. The redevelopment required that major columns were replaced with mega-columns that support a number of trusses from which two new floors were suspended. WFBA provided specialist structural expertise and designed the temporary supports that were provided while the new columns were installed.

We provided specialist steelwork design services for a number of clients on this project and the range of tasks undertaken was significant. One of these was to allow rapid progress of site works we designed a system platform to enable the off-site construction of over 100 plant room pods each occupying 18.0 x 9.0 m on plan and 5.75m height.

For this project we acted as the designer of the structural steel framed structure which created a multi-storey office building. The format was unusual in that the building stepped back onto the site in a series of cubic shapes following the ‘brutalist’ architectural theme. The design used a composite steel and concrete solution with profiled metal decking and insitu concrete slabs forming the floor plates bonded to the steel beams with welded shear studs. The solution was very cost effective. The development was for Lamron Estates.
